Newsletter October 2016. Another busy month for the local charity who support children going through or post cancer treatment along with their family. Janet Walker-Smith (founder) said “The charity has had a busy time as our pace now increases, with the exposure the charity is now being given by such large organisations, we are so delighted to have their valuable support. Companies like BMW Wollaston that has wonderfully surprised us with their generosity as they will be funding the entire Christmas break for 18 families. The Co-op for their recent fabulous news about approving the charity for the Community Fund, Barclaycard for offering resources, and the new contacts we have made after the visit to the London Marathon ballot, along with our presents at the Northampton Saints. The families have been able to enjoy some wonderful events thanks to Sporting Bears, and been able to enjoy some wonderful produce from the charity allotment thanks to Manager Alistair. My thanks also go to all the team in the office and to all the supporters that continue to help us grow”.
Last month the charity mentioned about the DHL family fun day, organised by Kayla Wheller and presented the charity with £821. After our article last month they surprised us further by presenting us with match funding, a big thank you to Kayla and everyone at DHL Brackmills.
A massive thank you to Sporting Bears for holding a family fun day at Rockingham Raceway circuit in Corby. The families got to ride in high performance cars such as Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Aston Martins to name but a few on the national circuit. There was also a super display of NASCAR cars, police cars, fire engines and a face painter with some great results! The families had a great time with lots of smiles.
The Charity is now on a large number of the Northampton Saints official fixture cards for the whole of the season, this directs any supporters to consider the charity by clicking to make a difference, via the QR code to the web address www.goldengiving.com/fundraising/saints. The charity has been given 50 cards, anyone wishing to have one please contact us to make a small donation.
A massive thank you to David Glover (Dealer Principle) and his staff at Wollaston BMW, for booking this year’s Christmas Fantasy break already. BMW have made full arrangements from funds they have already raised, to fund all the charity families going this year. This time more families will be able to enjoy the unforgettable experience with 18 families now booked to go, and with Butlins supreme organiser Samantha Taylor they will have the most wonderful time, as she will leaves no stone unturned to ensure it is as perfect as last year. We are also delighted to mention that David has announced that both he and his wife will be joining all the families at Skegness, for the very special Christmas meal. We will very much be looking forward to them both joining us, to witness some of the magic that our families now have to look forward to thanks to everyone at Wollaston BMW.
We were delighted to be invited to the London Marathon Charity Ballot held at the UCL Institute in September. Race director Hugh Brasher detailed the support available to help the many charities, along with some statistics demonstrating how privileged the charity is to gain a place, with only 1 in 6 being accepted for the 40,000 starters. NCTLC is so pleased that long supporters of the charity Mark Rainbow of Results Global will be running for us, along with his brother Dave running for National Leukaemia Care. We wish them both well as they now prepare for the biggest charity event in the world.
We had some great news from the Co-op approving the charity for the Community Fund, this was following one of the managers at the local Co-op store in Earls Barton approaching us some months ago. Which from the 21st September members will start to receive new cards and will be able to choose a cause in their communities to support. Meaning that members shopping in any store in the local area, will be given the chance to select from a number of worthy causes. The fund will mean that the Co-op will donate 1% of what is spent, to the chosen choice of the member. The scheme will run to March when the total amount collected will be presented to each cause. Our thanks go to our local store for providing us with this fantastic opportunity.
A surprise call from employees of “Sweet on Games”, as 5 large boxes with a multitude of toys was presented to the charity. Owner Paul Calvert and his staff are based in Milton Keynes, they specialise in supplying quality gifts to the leisure industry. Thank you Sweet on Games for considering us we will make sure the children at Christmas has something extra this year.
Barclaycard have announced they will be providing us with valuable resources, 15 persons will be available to help the charity, more information next month.
The charity is currently working with AKA Ltd to update the promotional video ready for the 2016 Ball. Andy Kirk who has over the last 18 years worked on documentaries for the BBC, ITV, Five, Deutcshe Wella TV and live broadcasts for MTV, has been working with the charity to move this along quickly. Janet said “We are so pleased that Andy and their wonderful company that have done so many great productions, have agreed to help our cause. It is with thanks too to Trustee Fred Williams, for his valuable organising and input, enabling us to have our video available in time for the Ball”.
Thanks to our allotment manager Alistair McCarter we had an allotment fun day at the end of August. It was an amazing time for the families, making some vegetable monsters, summer flower wreaths, harvesting crops such as sweetcorn, potatoes, beans, courgettes and tomatoes and getting to take home the produce. This is something the founder Janet wanted from the allotment community project some years ago. As this gives children the chance to help them develop a better understanding of how things grow, and they really enjoy gigging and planting, It also benefits them for outdoors learning. It was a great day for the families with loads of smiles, well done Alistair for such a successful year!!
